PostHeaderIcon The Most Common Eczema ? Atopic Dermatitis

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Eczema is certainly no exception.

Among the many major types of eczema, atopic dermatitis (sometimes called infantile eczema) is the most common. Most people develop atopic dermatitis before the age of five. This refers to a number of conditions where the skin is red and irritated.

?Atopic? means conditions where someone is sensitive to allergens like pollen, molds, dust, animal dander (fur and feathers), and some food. ?Dermatitis? is the inflammation of the skin.

Victims

65% of the population develops atopic dermatitis during the first year of their lives, up to 90% until the age of 5. While it usually ends at the second year, around 50% suffers from it into adulthood as hand eczema.

Luckily, this kind of eczema is not contagious and there is no worry catching it from someone or giving it to anyone. It, however, runs in families where members have eczema, asthma or hay fever.

Symptoms

Red, itchy patches on the skin occur mostly in hands and feet. Other common areas are the elbow bends, backs of knees, ankles, wrists, necks and upper chests. But they can also happen anywhere in the body, including the face and around the eyes.

In infants, these patches develop on the scalp and face, especially on the cheeks.

Skins sometime swell, crack and develop scale. Without treatment, the skin protects itself from damage caused by scratching by developing a thick crust over the affected area.

Causes

Medical experts have not pinpointed the exact cause or causes of atopic dermatitis. There had been many false leads before.

However, they are one in the belief that the cause is a combination of complex interaction of many factors ? our genes, where we live, chemical and organic pollutants, immune system malfunction, and a breakdown of the outermost skin layer.

Risk factors

Today, many risk factors related to atopic dermatitis eczema had already been isolated. Foremost is family history. If one or more members of your family had atopic conditions (dermatitis, asthma, hay fever), you have a good chance of developing the same.

Pollution-prone places also increase the risk of the illness. Females are slightly prone to the disease than males. It also tends to be more common in higher social classes and in families that are smaller in size.

Diagnosis

Doctors usually look for a rash, and ask for the medical history of the patient and those of close relatives. The search is the presence of a history of atopic dermatitis, asthma or hay fever from everyone.

To learn if the patient has allergic contact dermatitis (another common eczema type), doctors conduct patch testing. This is a medical process for finding allergies.

Treatments

Atopic dermatitis eczema cannot be cured. However, with proper treatment, most cases can be managed. The treatments are for hydrating the skin, reduce inflammation, decrease the risk of infection, and ease down the itchy feeling.

Doctors use emollients to relieve dry skin, compresses (cold) to relieve the itch, corticosteroids for inflammation reduction, and sometimes sedative antihistamines to help the patient sleep.

Today, doctors use a combination of therapies to treat skin discomfort and condition as well as having the patient makes lifestyle changes that help alleviate the illness. (Some of the triggers of common eczema such as atopic dermatitis are sometimes job-related.)
Is Ointment Good For Your Eczema?

Eczema, in everyday language, is a group of medical conditions that makes the skin irritated and inflamed. The most common eczema is called atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema. Today, most doctors treat these conditions with ointment preparations.

Most of this information comes straight from the Eczema pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.

Atopic basically refers to a group of diseases with an inherited tendency to develop other allergic condition like asthma or hay fever. Dermatitis generally refers to skin irritations.

This disease is common in young children and infants, but usually disappears after about the baby’s second year. Some people, however, bring it with them till adulthood and suffer throughout their lives.

Treatments

At present, there is no cure yet found for atopic eczema, and the other types. The treatments are basically for relief and prevention of itch. (Scratching can lead to infection.)

Since the skin becomes dry and itchy, lotions and creams are applied to keep the skin moist. These are usually applied when the skin is damp (after bathing) to retain moisture. Itching is also partially eased with cold compresses.

Doctors usually prescribe ointments over other treatments like creams, liquids, pastes, shake lotion, and powder. The following are the treatments and how they act on your skin.

Liquids

This would include baths, wet dressings, paints, and gels that liquefy on contact with your skin. Tar baths for eczema is also a liquid treatment.

Oil is also a liquid treatment and is used in combination with other ingredients to form oil-in-water and water-in-oil agents. Liquid treatments dry up are prescribed for sweaty and oozing skin and to generally reduce inflammation.

Creams

Creams are used primarily as a soothing moisturizer. It consists of two agents ? oil and water ? in a combination to form an emulsion of 50% water and 50% oil.

This emulsified form is helpful because it penetrates the stratum corneum, the outer layer of the skin that is hard and scaly.

Ointments

Ointments are solutions consisting of 80% oil and 20% water. Generally, this combination makes for a better barrier against loss of skin moisture than creams and lotions.

In short, ointments are better moisturizers than any preparation. They form a protective layer on the skin and are strong moisturizers. (It locks in moisture better because it contains more oil.)

Paste

This preparation contains three agents ? oil, water, and powder. Technically, a paste is an ointment where powder is suspended.

Pastes are less greasy, though. They can be an effective carrier for dermatological medications. It soothes inflamed and weeping (oozing liquid) skin.

Powder

It is a single agent and is usually added to others to make shake lotions and pastes. For eczema, the common powdered medication is zinc oxide.

They are used to decrease skin-to-skin friction, and promote drying of sweaty and oozing skin lesions. However, they should not be applied to skin creases where they dry out and form clumps that can rub and irritate the skin.

Shake lotion

These lotions are made with powder and liquid. To use, they must be shaken first to disperse the powder evenly within the liquid. Powdered ingredients tend to settle down inside shake lotion bottles.

These are used to treat lesions wet or oozing skin lesions. All in all, each of these various forms of eczema treatment has specific uses, depending on the conditions of your skin lesions.

PostHeaderIcon The Levitation Magic Trick

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Magic Tricks? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Magic Tricks.

Ever seen a magician make someone float in the air? Have you ever wondered how this was done? Well, with some help, you can perform this magic trick and amaze the audience.

For this, you need a special type of couch that has a secret compartment where the person can slide into and stay in until the trick is over. You can call someone from the audience or just let your assistant help you by letting them sit in a reclining position and then covering them with a piece of cloth.

After some time, you command that person to rise and once she has risen to a height about a foot from the couch, you remove the couch and walk around that person. Unknown to the audience, the person does not really levitate and what they see is simply a mesh like screen that is shaped like the body of the subject.

To make it more believable, you tell the person to rise a few feet more way above your head. This is made possible by the four strings of invisible thread attached to the mesh and controlled by another person who follows your lead by telling them when to raise or lower the cloth.

Once the body is lowered and leveled to your head you remove the cloth and astound the audience because nobody is there.

You then make the person to show him or herself by calling them to come out. So that people will not think she hid in some hidden compartment backstage, your assistant can bring this person somewhere else and then let everyone see that assistant or the volunteer.

Think about what you’ve read so far. Does it reinforce what you already know about Magic Tricks? Or was there something completely new? What about the remaining paragraphs?

This is done of course as the couch that was removed earlier has been brought backstage so the person can come out already.

For the trick to work, the background or the backdrop has to be dark. The best color is black. The mesh that is used for the magic trick should be made of nylon material and can either be black or transparent.

When the trick is about to be completed, the off stage assistant who controlled the strings earlier should raise the uncovered screen completely out of view so they won’t see any strings and making sure that the stage is clear.

There are many versions of the levitation magic trick and using string and an assistant is just one of them. There is one where you can make yourself levitate and make you go one foot off the ground but for that to work; you will need to saw a block of wood that is smaller than your foot.

This is then placed on your trouser leg and then when you are ready, you bend over and remove it pretending that you are tying your shoe but what you are really trying to do is put the block on the floor and then hide this behind the shoe. You then hop up on the block with one foot and float a few inches of the ground.

People can catch on to how you did this magic trick so don’t stay too long up there. You can avoid this by dropping down fast and telling everyone that it takes a lot of effort to do this so you can’t stay up there for so long.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of Magic Tricks. Share your new understanding about Magic Tricks with others. They’ll thank you for it.

PostHeaderIcon Defending Oneself Using Nothing But Aikido Tomiki

Imagine walking home late at night when suddenly a group of people come out of nowhere and begin to surround you. The individual can cry out for help in the hopes that the locals will offer assistance or just give the money and hope that the hoodlums will leave after that.

But what if these people want more just than the money in the bag? The use of pepper spray or mace can probably knock two of the individuals out but something better is needed for proper defense. A good example is learning a martial art and if the person does not want to inflict that much damage, then aikido is the way to go.

What is aikido? This is a Japanese martial art just like Judo or Karate that uses primarily the arms to block offensive moves and then redirect it back with the same force to the opponent.

It is like catching a ball with one hand and then returning it back to another player. The moves are very fast which will surely amaze anyone who has seen one of Steven Segal’s action movies.

Aikido unlike other martial arts has been around since the 1930′s. As more students learned from the man who invented it, a number of dojo’s both in Japan and in other parts of the world were formed. This has also led to the development of different techniques in Aikido such as Aikikai, Yoshinkan and Yoseikan.

Practicing with a sparring partner and doing drills in the dojo is nothing compared to actual combat. This is the reason that the best way to stay in shape is to participate in a competition better known as Tomiki Aikido.

Aikido unlike other martial arts has not yet taken center stage in the Olympics. However, there are regular competitions organized by university clubs and local dojos in the community.

Now that we’ve covered those aspects of Aikido, let’s turn to some of the other factors that need to be considered.

The competition just like in Karate, Tae Kwan Do or Judo is between two people. The player who successfully strikes the other opponent gets earns a point.

Aikido is a martial art that can be learned by almost anyone regardless of gender or age. All the person has to do is signup in a dojo, learn the basics and then practice regularly to develop better skills.

The individual may not get it right the first time or fall more often than others but everyone had to undergo the same thing in order to become a better fighter.

When the person is ready, it wouldn’t hurt to participate in Tomiki Aikido, which is held monthly in different states. The person should just see if there is anything on the bulletin board or online since certain clubs also announce such events on the web.

Aikido is primarily for defensive purposes. There are no sharp offensive punches or kicks normally associated with other martial arts. It can prepare anyone both physically and mentally to respond to various situations.

Self defense is something everyone needs to learn. Having a small knife or pepper spray can help bit if the odds are too many, then it is time to use hand to hand combat. An attack may not happen tomorrow or one week from now but the skills learned in Aikido will come in handy to be able to defend oneself against criminal elements and stop becoming a victim.

PostHeaderIcon Why watch Aikido clip video?

Current info about Aikido is not always the easiest thing to locate. Fortunately, this report includes the latest Aikido info available.

Aikido was developed by as a martial art by Morihei Ueshiba who studied several martial arts since 1912. Known to many aikido practitioners as “O Sensei” or the “Great Teacher,” Ueshiba was able to develop the martial art based on a purely physical level using techniques and movements such those of “Jujitsu” and “Kenjutsu” called “aikido.”

It is believed that aikido was first introduced to the Western culture way back in 1951 by a martial arts practitioner Minoru Mochizuki when he visited France. Then, he introduced aikido and several aikido techniques to judo students in different areas of France. After this introduction, Tadashi Abe, who cane as the official Aikikai Honbu representative in 1952, remained in France for less than seven years and continued the pursuit.

The following year, Kenji Tomiki conducted a tour along with various martial arts delegates in 15 continental states in the US. And in that same year, Koichi Tohei of Aikikai Honbu was sent by for a year to Hawaii just to set up a number of dojos. After invading the US, Aikido gained patronage in the UK, Germany, and Australia. Today, thousands of dojos are set up for those who would want to learn the practice of the martial art.

BITS AND PIECES OF AIKIDO

If you are interested with aikido but do not have the time and money to go to a dojo and enroll for an aikido class, then you should find other means to do so. One of the easiest ways to introduce yourself into the exciting world of aikido is to browse the Internet and look for aikido video clips.

You may not consider everything you just read to be crucial information about Aikido. But don’t be surprised if you find yourself recalling and using this very information in the next few days.

Being a limitless source of any information, browsing the Internet for various aikido video clips can give you better options and the specific details you would want to learn. Today, there are so many websites that offer aikido clip videos for free for those who would want to learn the basics and for those who would want to get an idea how the martial art works before enrolling to it.

Usually, aikido video clips contain loose form training or popularly known as “ki nagare.” Here, the aikido practitioners are just playing around even and after the martial art presentation. The most viewed aikido video clips are those of famous aikido practitioners while conducting their classes or during their practice. But since these are just clips, it is not possible for you to learn everything about the techniques of the martial art.

Amateurs who document the practitioner’s lessons and stunts during practice usually take these aikido video clips. Since these are taken in impromptu, you cannot expect high quality resolution and sound. The most common problem would be is that the aikido video clip has a noisy background due to the noises created by people from neighboring gym hall or from the enthusiastic audience inside the dojo.

After filming, they upload these files into the Internet so others can see it. Although these are just short clips, there is a possibility that you pick up aikido techniques that you can practice. Unlike in full-length aikido videos, the variety of aikido techniques is limited when you watch an aikido video clip.

Aikido video clips are available in various aikido sites or from yahoo, google, and u-tube. There are many more websites that offer free aikido video clips but expect that limited amount of information can be gathered.

PostHeaderIcon Basic Facts and Truths about Eczema

Most parents find it hard to deal with any problems and sicknesses that are experienced by their kids. It is even harder to deal with conditions that have no cure such as eczema. The best thing that they can do in this case to help their kids is to look for ways to avoid further flare ups and to make sure that their children stay away from any factors that may trigger the condition. This is a recurrent skin problem that is likely to occur during infancy and early childhood. Most kids will outgrow the common symptoms, but some of them will carry these through adulthood. There are only limited numbers of adults who will develop the case for the first time. Aside from physical and emotional causes, the problem can also be caused by genetic factors.

This problem is an itch that when scratched, it will develop into rash. The solution to the problem is to make sure that the sufferer won’t scratch or at least, avoid scratching the affected parts. It comes in severe forms when the condition is developed during infancy. Children who have this problem may also develop other types of allergic diseases such as asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Diagnosing the Problem

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Eczema. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

Laboratory testing cannot diagnose this kind of skin problem. These three factors must be present for the diagnosis to be made. First off, the sufferer must be atopic. They may come from a family that has similar allergic diseases. The patient must also experience pruritis or the medical term for itching. This is the only way to trigger the rash and if one doesn’t experience any kind of itching, then it is very likely that they don’t have this kind of skin problem. Due to itching, rashes will also appear. These may cause redness on the skin, blisters, bumps and the scaly look and feel.

Infants will likely develop the problem on various body parts that include their cheeks, back of scalp, chest, legs and arms. The diaper area is typically spared because they aren’t able to scratch the part. For adults and older kids, the problem typically develops behind the knees or in front of the elbows. To make sure that itching will be lessened, you have to determine what causes such. This may be due to infections, allergies, irritants and stress. When suffering or if one is prone to develop the problem, it is recommended that they stay away from using harsh chemicals on their skin, strong soaps or wearing wool fabrics and polyester. You must also avoid conditions wherein your body will be subjected to too much heat and sweating.

People who are suffering from this skin problem are prone to develop other skin infections that are caused by fungi, bacteria and other viruses. To help you deal with eczema, especially if your kids are suffering from this, you must get them looked at by the right professionals. Only the doctors can recommend the most suitable solution for the itchiness according to the severity of the problem.

PostHeaderIcon Into the world of Aikido martial arts

With the visible convergence of East and West cultures, more and more people are discovering and rediscovering new means self-discipline especially in the field of martial arts. One of these means is called “Aikido,” a very popular Japanese martial art.

KNOWING AIKIDO

?Do not fight force with force,? this is the most basic principle of Aikido. Considered as one of the non-aggressive styles in martial arts, Aikido has become popular because it doesn’t instigate or provoke any attack. Instead, the force of the attacker is redirected into throws, locks, and several restraining techniques.
Since aikido uses very few punches and kicks, the size, weight, age, and physical strength of the participants or the opponents only partake only a small role. What’s important is the skilled Aikido practitioner is skilled enough to redirect his or her attacker’s energy while keeping him or her in a constant of unbalance.

The history of Aikido as a martial art can be traced when Morihei Ueshiba discovered and developed its principle of aikido. Known as “O Sensei” or the “Great Teacher,” Ueshiba made sure to develop a martial art that is based on a purely physical level using movements like throws, joint locks and techniques derived from another martial arts like “Jujitsu” and “Kenjutsu.”

See how much you can learn about Aikido when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

Technically, aikido was stemmed out and developed mainly from “daito-ryu aiki-jujutsu” while incorporating several training movements similar to the “yari” or “spear, “jo” or a short “quarterstaff” and from “juken” or “bayonet”. Although these jujitsu movements are prominent while practicing the martial art, many practitioners agree that strongest influences of aikido is that of kenjutsu.

When he finally developed the minor and major principles of Aikido, Ueshiba emphasized that the martial art does not only pertain to self-defense techniques but can also play a major role in the enhancement of the practitioner’s moral and spiritual aspects eventually leading them to place greater weight on the development and achievement of peace and harmony. In fact, because of the great emphasis in the development of harmony and peace, seasoned aikido practitioners say that “the way of harmony of the spirit” is one phrase that could describe or translate the term “aikido” in English.

Just like any other martial art, aikido has various techniques that include ikkyo or the “first technique,” “nikyo” or the “second technique,” “sankyo,” or the “third technique,” “yonkyo” or the “fourth technique,” the “gokyo” or the “fifth technique,” the “shihonage” or the “four-direction throw,” the “kotegaeshi” or the wrist return, “kokyunage” or the “breath throw,” “iriminage” or the entering-body throw, “tenchinage” or the “heaven-and-earth throw,” “koshinage,” or the “hip throw,” “jujinage” or the “shaped-like-’ten’-throw,” and the “kaitennage” or the rotation throw.”

Although aikido is not about punching or kicking the opponent, it is not considered as a static art. It is still a very effective means of martial arts because it requires the aikido practitioner to use the energy of their opponent so they can gain control over them. When you will look at the martial art closely, you will realize that aikido is not only a means of self-defense technique but can also serve a means of spiritual enlightenment, physical health or exercise or a simple means of attaining peace of mind, concentration, and serenity.

Although different aikido styles gives great emphasis on the spiritual aspects to varying levels?some to greater or lesser degrees?the idea that the martial arts was conceptualized in order to achieve peace and harmony remains the most basic ideology of the martial art.

That’s the latest from the Aikido authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

PostHeaderIcon What You Need to Know about Eczema Condition and Cure for Kids

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Eczema is certainly no exception.

If you are getting frustrated with your kid’s eczema, you must take note that most parents are dealing with the same thing. This is definitely not something that you must be happy about, but at least with such fact, you know that there are many people that you can ask on how to help your kid deal with such. This kind of skin problem that is also known as atopic dermatitis, typically begins as rash during the early infancy or by the time your kid reach the age of five. Its symptoms include irritated and rough skin, which is scaly, red and itchy. The condition itself cannot be cured, but there are proper treatments that are available to control the rash.

For infants, the rash usually develops on the cheeks, legs, arms and forehead. For older children, the itchy rash typically develops inside the elbows, ankles and knees. The condition is commonly mistaken for other types of itchy rashes such as heat rash, contact dermatitis, psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. You need to take note of the exact time when the rash begins on your child and where. This is essential so that doctors can determine if they have this skin condition or if they are suffering from a very different case. You must also be able to provide them details about the pattern of the rash when it flares up.

Preventive Measures

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Eczema. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

When the condition gets worse, you can help your kid deal with it by preventing the flares. First off, you have to make sure that they will stay away from what may trigger such condition. These triggering factors that they must avoid include using bubble baths and harsh soaps, wearing clothes that are made of polyester and wool, being exposed to dust mites and sweating a lot. If they are allergic to any food, this is the time that you really need to watch what they eat and make sure that they don’t touch anything that might worsen their condition. It is also essential that you keep their skin hydrated through the use of moisturizing lotion.

Keeping your kid’s moisturized is an easy step. During their bath time, make sure that the water they use is lukewarm. You also need to let them use mild soaps or any kind that has moisturizing effects. After every bath, you have to help seal the moisture on their skin by applying suitable moisturizer. There are many types of moisturizers that you can get for your kids, but if they already have this skin disorder, it will be best if you will get them greasy ointment. As much as possible, they must stay away from using oils and lotions on their skin. There are also appropriate creams that can help heal the itching. After settling for the right kind of moisturizer, you have to make sure that you reapply this on their skin two or three times a day.

You can also ask your pediatrician if they can prescribe nonsteroidal creams and lotions for this purpose. These can be the best substitutes for the moisturizers that can be bought over the counter to help prevent the flare up of your child’s rash due to eczema.

That’s the latest from the Eczema authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.
